Sigiriya-Lion Rock

Pidurangala Hermitage

Distance : 17km (25min)

A safety rock castle built by King Kumara Kashayapa in the 5th Century AD as the 8th wonder of the world situated in Matale district. A monadnock geographically is an isolated rock towering up to 660FT with 200m in perimeter.

In the tourist industry it’s well-known for its art gallery with Sigiriya nymphs in 3D in many modes. Frescos, mirror wall and graffito are classic artistic creations that fascinate the premises declared as a world heritage site.

It exhibits a majestic look with eye-catching view and famous rock fortress as the monastery in the wilderness. Legend says that King Kashyapa decentralized the monks to Pidurangala, meanwhile Sigiriya was being built.

Also an isolated rock same as Sigiriya almost directly opposite where one can enjoy ecological diversity covered with tropical rain forests and climaxes of tree tops layers with salubrious climes. Moreover, a very famous rock for mountaineers as a leisure sport that would negate trudging fatigue for its fair weather condition.

Dambulla Cave Temple

Ritigala

A world heritage cultural site and anthropological excavated site that has proven archaeological values, it elevates to a height of 160m over the surrounding plains and more than 80 documented caves are in the vicinity.

Major five caves contain icons and paintings or murals that covered an area of 2100 sqm of Kandyan Art Tradition. A strange flowing of a water squirt lifts upstream can be seen as a phenomenal flowing contrary to principals of Physics.

It captures the tourist’s attraction because of topographical features of Massifs with a sheerness of the abrupt.

Mihinthale

Matale Alu Viharaya is the Zenith of Buddhism that had been compiled, the Thriptaka Dhamma on Ola leaves during the reign of King Walagamba 44 – 1AD.

It’s the largest town in the central province a mountainous area that exhibits scenic beauty of the country with undulating mountain ranges covered with thick jungle. Sembuwatta Lake is a tourist attraction situated at Elkaduwa adjacent to the Campbell's Lane Forest Reserve. Fair weather conditions prevailing daily.

Polonnaruwa

It’s the capital of the North Central Province similarly the 3rd kingdom that existed over 1500 years rule by 109 kings. The entire area is covered with ancient temples, shrines, devalas and dagobas specially the eight shrine temples called Atamasthana.

The world heritage site because it is a sacred holy town that has very valuable ancient monasteries scattered over sixteen square miles which can be seen denoting huge marvelous structural constructions of dagobas and chethiyes.

A massive mass of land that had been known as Pulasthipura as its historic name. It is surrounded by well-famed national parks namely Wasgamuwa, Somawathi and Kaluwamadu. Polonnaruwa is proof that sounds the skills of ancient stone craft that display exquisite decor and stone sculpture activity.

Wonder stricken stone creations are Pothgul wehera, stone stature (of Saga Pulasthi) Deepa uyana, Parakumba Palace and the court, Kumara Pokuna, Siva Devalaya, Thuparamaya, Nissanka Latha Mandapaya(meaning-mansion), etc.. Parakrama Samdraya or reservoir is the highlighter in the area.

Kandy

Minneriya National Wildlife Park

Distance : 97km (2h 43min)

It was the last Sinhala Kingdom during the period of 1706 – 1815 AD. A Forerunning feature is the temple of the Tooth Relic, an artistic temple with murals, and admiration for its architecture, shone as bygone craftsmen also created the Paththirippuwa (The Octagon) as a stupendous creation in unmatched architectural merits.

Kandy's prestigious bird sanctuary in Udawattakele,  also famous for Asgiriya International Stadium, the Bogambara Stadium and archaic museum. Kandy Lake is an eye - catching scenic view and its entire premises are full of kovils, devalas with other shrine places.

Minneriya became limelight because of Minneriya Tank that was built under the patronage of the King Mahasen in the 3rd Century AD. Located in North Central Province originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938 to protect the catchment of the tank and the wildlife within environs.

A very spectacular vision the drinking of water by the herds of wild elephants in the dry season by the tank. The park is filled with migrant birds in transition seasonally and the terrain is enjoyable with biological diversity of inland creatures.

Kaudulla Bird sanctuary

Trincomalee

Kaudulla is a historic village that marked prior patronage of King Mahasen by putting up 16 irrigation tanks in the area for paddy cultivation by its inhabitants. It was recently designated as a national park in the year 2002. Kaudulla had been identified as an important and strange bird behavioral area by many international bird lore organizations.

It is an inviting sanctuary for the tourists, attracts and supports a variety of plants and animal life including large mammals, fish and reptiles.
